This year the pilgrimage to the Mount was organized by the BIRD (Bandra Interschool Republic Day) Commitee. The principals of the 15 different schools in Bandra decided to come together to organise this event, this year being ‘The Year of the Eucharist” with the theme “Mary, Mother of the Eucharist”.
Students began the walk from Apostolic Carmel High School, Bandra to the Mount in an orderly manner reciting the rosary. 1700 students of the different schools assembled at the Basilica at the Mount for the 8.30 a.m. Mass.
His Lordship, Bishop Bosco de Penha celebrated the Eucharist, along with the other co-priests from the different schools. He was pleased that the principals took this initiative and suggested that it could be an annual occasion celebrated every year on the Feast of the birthday of Our Mother. His homily revolved around LOVE with a comparison of the love that we have of our earthly mother and our Heavenly Mother. He asked the students to begin with loving their parents, relatives, friends, classmates, teachers and not to forget the lonely, sick and the aged as they too need our love.
The Mass ended at 9.20 a.m. after which the students, accompanied by their teachers ,were given snacks, thanks to the BIRD Committee and the efforts of the workers of St. Andrews School who worked tirelessly for the past 3 days and helped in packing the snacks to be distributed in an orderly manner.
Thanks to The Bandra Police who helped in regulating traffic and taking care to see that the pilgrimage was peaceful.
A special thank you to the P.T.A. of Apostolic Carmel High School, Bandra who did a commendable job in organizing the pilgrimage, looking into the permissions to be sought and the minute details of the pilgrimage.
Our deep gratitude to the priests of Mount Mary’s Basilica for giving us the permission to organize this pilgrimage and allowing the students to share this experience which will be etched in their hearts forever.
